Keel-Bill Toucan – The National bird of Belize

The T.R.E.E.S center is ideally situated in the Maya Mountains, surrounded by National Parks and a variety of habitat types including multiple waterways that receive relatively low human disturbance. The combination of organic orchard, grassland patches, and mature broadleaf forest with riparian zones provides for a myriad of bird species that can all be seen at the T.R.E.E.S center.

So far we have seen over 160 species of birds at the center, including the rare King Vulture, White Hawk, and spectacular Violaceaous and Black-Headed Trogons which are all observed quite regularly at T.R.E.E.S. You can gaze at hummingbirds on one of our many hummingbird feeders from the comfort of your deck hammocks. Common avian guests likely to share your facilities include the Keel-Billed Toucan, Collared Aracaris, and many more!

You can either come with a group or visit as an individual and our guides or the directors will be glad to take you birdwatching at the center. The center is equipped with bird identification books as well as scopes for the best bird watching experience.

For instructors and bird banders with the proper permits, we have all the equipment for bird banding and are glad to assist with any bird banding program. T.R.E.E.S is planning to open a banding station shortly. If you are a Master bird bander and would be interested in offering a birdbanding workshop at T.R.E.E.S please contact us at info@treesociety.org.

If you are hoping to check off your list many of those inland bird species, the T.R.E.E.S Hosting Center is a must-see bird stop!
