Bats are fascinating mammals that belong to the group called Chiroptera. They have long fingers connected by a thin skin membrane, which allows them to fly—the only mammals able to do so.
Belize is home to a wide variety of bats, with 73 different species identified in the country. At T.R.E.E.S, researchers have found 61 of these species. Bats make up about half of all mammal species in Belize, totaling 164 different kinds of mammals.
